This has to be one of the most unbelievable cheap shots I've seen in years of covering football. If the league is serious about protecting players who are defenseless, it will do something very serious about this dirty, cheap play. I'd suspend him six games myself.

Wesley left his feet and led with his shoulder into Smith's head. He should get at least 6 games. In hockey, all five skaters would have been fighting each other to get at a rival that made such a hit.

Did you notice that Wesley only got a one game suspension??? ONE GAME!!! Is the league serious?? People get fined for talking badly about officiating and this punk gets a one game suspension?? I was flabergasted when i read this. I agree with you and I would think that John Fox would bench the guy for longer than that. I will definitly have to watch the TB Carolina rematch to see the bounty on his head. One Game!
There is also a quote from wesley that "I was just trying to make a play." He assulted a defenseless return guy and left his feat to do so…In the Goodell era of disciple and sportsmanship one game is a travesty!
A one game suspension is completely fair. Similar infractions have gotten one-game suspensions. They can't just arbitrarily penalize a guy longer or shorter. A crackback block is arguably even more dangerous than the Wesley hit. But Favre's dirty play, for example, only got him a $10K fine.
Totally uncalled for cheap shot that served no purpose, and that could have ended a career. I'd say at least 6 games and $100k fine.
