#1 receivers don't need to be drafted high. But they almost are never drafted in the last round. They are role players or waiver wire material. Guys on the 1999 Cleveland Browns.

And I saw those prop bets yesterday, betting on them was closed. Nothing in those prop bets that interested me, anyway.

I guess your point did elude me if you were not referring to #1 receivers needing to be drafted high.

BrianD, precisely what does your post have to do with anything I've written? I have absolutely no idea. I'm talking about #1 receivers drafted deep in the last round of a draft. 9,999 times out of 10,000, the very best you get is a role player, if he even makes it in the league. Not a #1 receiver. That guy with the wacky Muslim name, or whatever type of name it is, it going to be the new #1 receiver, but my point was role players are a dime a dozen. A point which somehow eluded you.

wile e, lay off the lithium. salary caps, contracts??? none of that has to do with why the trade of edwards is trash. mangini values the talent like a guy who sticks around the poker table with a losing hand far too long. the giants offered a better deal for edwards in april. some other team would have probably topped the jets offer had mangini held out a little longer like anyone with common sense would have. he devalued edwards, he devalued quinn….the mangenius is only interested in selling lerner his 4 year plan. rex ryan had him pegged.

i invite every mangini supporter to my house for a poker game. bring your bankroll, jewelry and family heirlooms. i'll make sure to provide your greyhound bus ticket back home.

Brian – you sound like you actually believe those guys didn't have "great" careers cuz they were bad players? Granted, none of them may have amounted to anything playing for any team in the league but I'm inclined to believe that at least half would have had decent careers with many other organizations and at least 2-3 would have been stars if they were in one of the top 5 organizations in the league.
Being drafted just means you have to be a truly special player to even have a chance to come out of the dark abyss you were drafted into to have a chance to get to the summit.
I can't think of a single superstar in the league over the last 10 years who would've amounted to anything had his first tour of NFL duty started in Berea. Not one.

I wonder if part of Jay's commentary has anything with the love-fest from the national media towards Mangini, regardless of the moves.

I'd be willing to bet if Mangini cured cancer, the national media would jump all over him because some helpless lab mice had to take one for the team in the process. Its not just the local guys who aren't big fans, its the national guys from the NY area who didn't like his style. (I'm not a big fan of a lot of things either, but still…)

I wonder if the national media didn't have Cleveland to dump on who they'd go after all the time. Detroit is getting the pity vote regardless of what happens because apparently that the only place in the country where the crappy economy has had any kind of affect on things; Chicago is cool; and Pittsburgh tends to get things done.

@ Brian , haven't you learned yet that Mcmananmon and his two negative sidekicks that lurch in here don't actually know anything about contracts or salary caps ,they just look for ammo to bash a local team on every turn .For some reason they keep assuming Edwards wanted to be here and he would have played his heart out for us and then not ask for a big raise at the end of the year.
They won't admit to being closet Stoolers fans,our only hope that is that the ABJ will lose enough readership from Pat that they will put a real sports columist in his place and let him report on knitting or something far more suited to his talent.
