I think I offered that the Delonte West situation might linger with the Cavs. Well it’s lingered. There’s really nothing to make fun of here. West has some serious issues, and he’s got to deal with them. Unfortunately there’s no guidebook on how to do that.
When West showed up at the Cavs media day, I thought he looked very thin. Then he started talking about being back on his meds, and I thought it odd, at best quirky. He didn’t seem together, but I’m not a psychologist and amateur analysis didn’t seem appropriate at that time. (Yes, one could fairly wonder why it's appropriate now; I've not gotten my degree in the interim.)
Well it seems West still is not together. The other night he didn’t play in a team preseason game after it was announced that he would. He’s left the team again.
The Cavs will support him. His teammates have been gracious and very supportive.
But at this point I hope the Cavs give him all the time and space he needs to get things together before he returns.
He’s working through what seem like some serious things.

I think they should trade this guy to the first team looking to unload a contract and willing to take a risk on damaged goods. Which leads me to Braylon Edwards. It's oh so politically correct to treat West with kid gloves (give him space, blah, blah, blah) but why is Edwards viciously attacked? Who's to say Edwards doesn't suffer from a purported mental illness, too? I'm being very serious here. Shrinks have a mental illness diagnosis for everything these days, and narcissistic personality disorder is one of them. So if we're going to feel sorry for West, then let's also feel sorry for the countless extremely talented, albeit diva NFL wide receivers. They're all mentally ill. Give them space. Blah, blah, blah.
