Yet another complaint about Eric Wedge

by Pat McManamon on September 10, 2009

in Eric Wedge, Indians, McManamon

Let’sgotribe.com has a pretty thoughtful rant on the Indians lineup yesterday. Its main issue: Eric Wedge had no business starting Niuman Romero at first base when Andy Marte needs at-bats.

They have a point. Anthony Castrovince of Indians.com points out that Romero was surprised to find himself starting, that he feels better at second or shortstop and had just seven starts at first base for Columbus this season.

Letsgotribe.com also points out that Ross Atkins of the Indians said Jordan Brown was not called up because with Marte and Matt LaPorta would be playing first.

It concludes by calling for Wedge to lose his job and saying: “Giving Marte major league at-bats is critical at this point as the Indians need to gather as much information as possible before the offseason. The decision on Marte is going to reverberate to a decision on Peralta and also to decisions on guys like Brown. Wedge stupidly wasting a game watching Romero isn't just stupid, it's hurting the team.”

Organizational decisions like the one to not promote IL batting champion Jordan Brown are just one reason why this team is in the pathetic shape it is today. What kind of message does Shapiro think he's sending to every minor league player, when a freakin' batting champion is bypassed for a "versatile .240 grinder." ?

Pat (and Mitch)
Marte has been getting at-bats and no days off… and after his recent hot streak he is currently in a big time slump. Giving him a day off is a natural in that situation, no?
It's hardly "wasting a game". Slumping players get a day off. Happens all the time.
As for Brown… all the scouting reports indicate his defense is pretty poor. THAT is why he didn't get the call-up.
Can he hit? Maybe… but if he can't catch… then we don't want him in the outfield… no?
Getting steamed because a guy who got called up primarily to be able to spell the other infielders occasionally?
Its not worth a blog post, or the negative energy
