The trade of Richard Seymour

by Pat McManamon on September 7, 2009

in McManamon, NFL

This is why the Oakland Raiders are the Oakland Raiders. They have traded a first-round pick in the 2011 draft for a guy who will be 30 and who can be a free agent.

Let’s be honest – I love Richard Seymour as a player. His every game and Pro Bowl serves as a reminder that the Browns picked Gerard Warren over him even though the team’s scouts and scouting reports and analysis said Seymour was and would be a better player.

But … the way the Raiders play this pick could be in the top 10. And … there’s no guarantee that Seymour will re-sign with Oakland. In fact, the opposite appears likely.

So the Raiders gave up a likely top 10 pick for a guy who probably will be there one year.

Go figure.

Smilin' Al Davis thought it was a good idea, therefore it's a good idea (Though I suspect that the Patriots use the same tool as the Red Sox to get what they want, the famous "financial considerations". And Al needs the cash, bad)

How much do you want to bet that as a little kid he was teased because of his name. I can see some wiseguy changing his fourth-grade seating chart now: Seymour, Dick.
