[...] An interesting fact courtesy of Patrick Mcmanamon that could come into play in the coming months and in Spring Training: “Andy Marte has his batting average up to .264. In his last 13 games, he’s gone 16-for-47 (.340), with four home runs and 13 RBI. That’s a nice stretch of hitting. Could Marte be the Indians third baseman next season? Perhaps. The Indians have to keep him on the 40-man roster after the season, or risk losing him to waivers. If they do, and if he keeps hitting, an infield of Marte, Asdrubal Cabrera, Luis Valbuena and Matt LaPorta does not sound too bad.” [Besides the Point: The Blog] [...]

alan t,

Even Pat can't help you here. They have pills for that now buddy boy. There is even a weight system you can use if you're losing hope. But I digress.

The Indians neither have a third baseman or a first baseman for next year.

With a few exceptions, Wedge's teams have always lacked someone who would rise to the occasion and deliver what was needed. In Game 2 of the 2007 playoffs, in Fenway Park, Franklin Gutierrez hit a three-run homer into the screen above the Green Monster in the 11th inning. Now, that was clutch! But when you think back to the Wedge Era, it's hard to find moments like that. And the reason seems to be that Wedge doesn't manage, he just "let's the boys play". If they produce, we win, otherwise you see what this season has turned into...extended spring training.
And that's pressure-free.

"Poppycock?" Now THAT should be censored.

No, but in all seriousness, all I meant is that if I was called out for having a tiny wiener, then my wiener would most definitely grow huge. Which is really all any guy can ask. I mean, just look at how tiny this wiener is.

Could Pat call out the Indians for even playing Johny Peralta, at all? Not even the "Losing Season" Pirates would let this boy imbecile onto the field, but the Tribe keeps putting him in the lineup and saying "This time he'll change. This time he'll pay attention. I'm sure of it" Is ADHD medication banned by baseball?
