Today is "Reader Appreciation Day" on the blog

by Pat McManamon on August 26, 2009

in McManamon, Reader Appreciation Day, What the heck?

I’ve been up, down and all-around the web today. And I can’t find a lot to blog about. There’s the death of Ted Kennedy. His loss is great, but that’s a tad political. There’s preseason football; good Lord, preseason football. There’s the Cavs, who start in 34 days. There’s the Indians. Yes, there’s the Indians. There’s always Brett Favre. Or Erin Andrews. Or the Yankes. Or the pennant race we’re not a part of. Or LeBron’s future. But … we’ve kind of been there, and there’s not a lot to be excited about (insert Erin Andrews line here).

Perhaps I’ve hit the wall. Or as Eric Mangini said it so well yesterday when he was asked about Brian Robiskie, perhaps the wall has hit me.

“With rookies sometimes the wall hits them,” Mangini said of Robiskie. “They don’t hit the wall, the wall hits them.”

I’m not sure what that means to a 20-some-year reporter, but it’s a pretty good line nonetheless. And it somehow worked its way into this post.

For me, right now there’s not a lot jumping out to to blog about.

In an hour that might change. Or it might not.

So I throw the floor open.

Anyone have any suggestions? Questions you’d like answered? Stuff like that.

Perhaps this will be “Reader Appreciation Day” and I’ll just do some quick thoughts, hits and answers based on comments and questions from you, my dear readers. Best questions might win a prize. Like a jar of pickles or something.

Hey, it’s worth a try, right?

Pat, you've personally seen a lot of games and sporting events. What stands out as your most favorite / special and why.

I think it's time to take up the Treaty of Versailles. No, not Zoilo Versailles — the Treaty of Versailles.

Pat, did it really lead to World War II?

Why is the word "bra" singular but the word "panties" is plural?

Why are NEO fans so bitter, negative and always ready to attack every single move the Indians make, when the franchise has won more games over the last 15 years than almost every other team in major league baseball?

Wouldn't you *think* there'd be some goodwill, some optimism, some gratitude?

What would these people be like if they lived in Pittsburgh or Kansas City? Suicidal?

Championships in other cities can often lead to chaos (car fires, looting, general disarray). What do you predict would happen in Northeast Ohio if the Browns won a superbowl this year, out-of-the-blue?

Has John Calipari earned a lifetime ban from coaching in the NCAA if he's had TWO seasons negated because of violations? I mean, there is Kelvin Sampson, there's Paul Biancardi, and I'm sure a couple more, but I think he's earned it.

Yeah – I'm with TimR – we would REALLY put Detroit and LA to shame, right? I mean, I picture a T-shaped bonfire that goes from lakewood to euclid along the shoreway, and south down 77 to canton

Describe your typical game day experience when you are covering the Browns/Cavs

Who is your favorite Jonas Brother?

alan t. August 26, 2009 at 10:03 am

Be honest: boxers or briefs?

If Zydrunas Ilgauskas falls down in the forest but nobody is there to hear him, did he still make a sound?

Brock August 26, 2009 at 10:13 am

In a race, who would win, Jamal Lewis or a self-propelled Briggs and Stratton?

alan t. August 26, 2009 at 10:29 am

If I may, I believe I can correctly answer that racing question: the Briggs & Stratton.

Why do men have nipples?

Elizabeth August 26, 2009 at 11:24 am

To Alan's "Pathetic or sad" question, I'd like to offer an alternate answer: EEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

I will give Arnold this: gotta be better than what Strickland may be workin' with though….
