One surprising fact about Letterman: As a general rule, Letterman's writers and Letterman haven't been remotely funny since the CBS time-slot completely neutered them. Even before then, at NBC, he was often on cruise control, but at least the show had its many moments of genuine cleverness, edge and hilarity.
Watching Letterman at CBS is like watching Carson in his last year, like Delonte West starting at point in the gold medal game of the 2020 Olympics, like naming Zydrunas Ilgauskas as one of the top-five centers of all-time, like putting a giant mural of David Dellucci in the foyer of the main White House bathroom, like giving my little sister my blessing to date Ben Roethlisberger. I don't think so.

letterman hasn't been funny since he got sober during his original run at nbc.
Am I crazy[a rhetorical question] or did Letterman start out in the late AM market, ala Mike Douglas?
No, you're not that crazy, I was one of the few people to watch it.
I saw it too … and he was funnier then because he was doing all this wacky stuff with crowds of housewives. Great stuff.
Letterman tossing it to Edwin Newman reading the news from the NBC newsroom. What synergy.
