How not to break ground for a new stadium being built without a public vote

Somehow I get the impression the folks running this county won’t be around for long.

Wow…5,000 show up for ground breaking. That's more than come to a Marlins game. What were they giving away?

They're not far behind the Indians in that regard, Tim. They're 29th in attendance, the Indians are 27th. The difference being they'll have a new stadium which will naturally spike attendance simply because it's a new stadium. The Indians, on the other hand, don't have another honorable guy like the wonderful Dick Jacobs to again threaten he'll move the franchise straight out of town unless he gets himself a new stadium at the taxpayers' expense.

You should do some homework into how the stadium in Avon was built: the residents voted on an income tax to be placed on the people who work in Avon but live elsewhere – like teachers (lowest paid in the county), police, fire, postal, etc.

Between that, the city piggybacking the annual 4th of July fireworks into the team's display (forcing people to pay to get into the stadium to watch them) and selling tickets out of city hall, it seems to be all on the up and up…

As a transplant from the area now living in Miami I can tell you that the overwhelming opinion in Miami was NO to the new stadium. Plusquellic`s recall fiasco is a sideshow compared to the shenanegans in Dade County. As for the new stadium, I am hoping for the best but expecting the worst. South Floridians do not support the Marlins, Dolphins, Panthers, or Heat, even the Canes. Miami is a poor sports town. The politics…….even poorer!

Like I said, dig up Dick. He'll threaten to pull the plug on the franchise and then everybody will say "YES!" to the stadium.
