Beside the Point: The Blog by Patrick McManamon

Anthony Parker is a popular guy

Anthony Parker is getting a lot of online love, and by extension that means the Cavs are getting the same for signing him. ESPN’s Marc Stein called Parker “one of the better bargains of the summer with a two-year deal worth an even $5.5 million …" That means the Cavs still have $3 million left to spend on their mid-level exception. Stein adds that Parker “has no shortage of admirers even though he’s 34.”

Waitingfornext year.com says that Parker can “flat out play” and has a flat-out in-depth and intelligent analysis. The story was written July 9, so some of the rumor/trade stuff is dated, but the ideas about Parker still hold.

A site called cavstheblog.com has this statistical look, which I think I should have discovered:

Player A: 8.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.7 SPG, 46% FG, 71% FT, 32% 3-PT

Player B: 10.7 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 3.4 APG, 1.2 SPG, 43% FG, 83% FT, 39% 3-PT

Yes, Player B is Parker. And Player A is Trevor Ariza. The blog points out Ariza’s three-point percentage was a career high and Parker’s a career low and says this is a good thing because Parker will go back to his norm. I worry this might mean one guy is improving and the other aging, but we won’t know until the season.

It’s all opinion, but at this point, one day after the All-Star Game with training camp a few months away, opinions are pretty much all we got.

I think this is pretty interesting as well. " I've been advised by one especially knowledgeable observer not to be surprised if Delonte West is traded at some point this season, not because Cleveland is eager to part with him but because West is surely more movable from that massive Cavs payroll than Daniel Gibson."-Marc Stein here's the link http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&page=Chatter-090714
