Or should it be why you hate Charlie Hustle? Plenty of the games are somewhat entertaining, and show good sportsmanship between players from opposing rivals. I kind of like to see the guys from different teams play together and get along. I think it's more of a reason to hate Pete Rose than the All Star Game. Not that anyone needs another reason..
That's one good reason. The others might be: what a freakin' waste of time. Meaningless, stupid, et al. And that goes for baseball, basketball and football. I don't care if the entire starting lineup is from Cleveland, I'm not interested in the least.
In fact, that's much the way I feel about the Tribe's regular season.
I like the fact that the Pro Bowl is at the end of the season… wish the NBA and MLB would think about moving their showcases to the conclusion of the seasons.
I mean, the MLB can still draft the ballots in January before even one pitch is thrown and determine who is all-star material then. Its just a popularity contest.
The HR Derby was ehh last night. Still don't understand how Adam Dunn still has never been invited to participate.
One thing I noticed last night: Joe Mauer, who is in the last year of his contract, with his hometown team. Wonder when they'll (ESPN, national know-it-alls) start putting the screws to him ala LeBron. (I loved the article I read a couple weeks ago when Justin Morneau said he'd never speak to Mauer again if he left Minnesota.) I should be hating teams in our division, not pulling for them, right?
i used to enjoy baseball the most out of the three major sports in cleveland. now, i think i hate it. i haven't watched an entire game since the 07 playoffs. bud selig, steroids, the strike, espn's new york/boston obsession, cancellation of the ws, the stupid all-star fiasco a few years ago, the unbalanced payrolls, eric wedge, mark shapiro….basically major league baseball sucks.
@terje,, I couldn't agree more. MLB's inability and refusal to govern itself by appointing Selig has ruined the game. Interleague play is meaningless and boring and frankly, after growing up watching baseball through the early 70's the "star" players of today just aren't that good .
While pitching for the NL in the 1937 All-Star Game, Dean faced Earl Averill of the Cleveland Indians, batting for the American League. Averill hit a line drive back at the mound, hitting Dean on the foot. Told that his big toe was "fractured," Dean said, "Fractured, hell, the damn thing's broken!" =
Dean came back too soon, and changed his pitching motion in a way that favored his sore toe. In so doing, he hurt his arm, losing his great fastball.
Total Baseball also attributes Dean's change in pitching motion to the All-
Star game injury. "He tried to alter his motion, came back too early and in-
jured his arm. He was 26 and had won 134 games."
This "all-star game injury" was very very famous when I was a kid growing up in the 40's and 50's, as Diz was a well-know broadcaster and baseball pun-dit…..

Having already unleashed a stream of invective at Donald Fehr, recently, I'm going to hold back my true feelings on Pete Rose. I will only say that it appears that Major League Baseball has developed an unexpected backbone regarding Pete's constant hammering about the Hall of Fame. Thus, as long as that spine does not turn to marshmallow in the next, oh, 30 years, Charlie the Hustler should go to his well-deserved grave without receiving the highest honor of the sport.
Alan, did you mean "Dwight Howard", instead of "Moe"? Cuz' I would say that the Indians do need more Stooges on their roster. They've got that humorless cigar store indian Wedge running the dugout, Never-crack-a-smile Shapiro in the front office, and a bunch of underachieving junior baseball executives-in-uniform, on the field. A happy team usually plays better than the grinders do. Let's sign Larry and Curly, while we're at it.

If the Indians had a lot more Moe Howards and a lot less Zydrunas Ilgauskases, then they wouldn't be in the pitiful position they're in today.

No, I meant Moe Howard. I want guys on my team who want to slap somebody in the face and poke their eyes out.
Why is it acceptable for a catcher to block the plate?
Rose played to win all the time. If you girls hate him for that, well, too bad!
