CC Sabathia is a great, great pitcher. If only he were still on the Indians.
But … he has not pitched less than 180 innings in his eight full seasons. The last two seasons – 2007 and 2008 – the Indians and Brewers had him throw 241 and 253 innings. In three of his starts this season, he's thrown 122, 119 and 123 pitches. His 1,568 pitches are sixth in baseball and his 102 innings are fifth.
Now he has biceps tendinitis.
Is it surprising?
I have no idea how long he'll be out. Sabathia always bounced back pretty well in Cleveland. But at some point there has to be a cost for all those innings thrown by a guy that big. How high a cost? Well, the potential is it could be at least $161 million of cost. Which is why the Yankees and their fans are pretty nervous right now.
Does this mean that the national media must delay any more talk about CC being the only current pitcher with the chance of winning 300 games?
He hasn't even been "out" yet, not having missed a start and now saying he's good to go Friday.
But everyone knows Carmona's better than C.C., right?
