I hope the bankruptcy trustee sells me Bernie's liquor cabinet at a discount.

Is he still planning to buy the team?

terje June 19, 2009 at 4:44 pm

if he melts down all his gold chains he might get the down payment.

alan t. June 19, 2009 at 4:55 pm

I guess it depends upon which team. Be specific. The Las Vegas Counting Crows, or whatever that AFL team was? I think they're still available for purchase.

A lot of snarky remarks here about a guy who deserves the respect and support of a community he served with great distinction for eight years.

You posters should be ashamed of yourselves.

sure barry. now can we talk about what a great guy mel hall was……..uh….oops.

This is really sad. How can I guy who was so smart on the field make such bad decisions off the field. I agree with Barry G. Bernie certainly gave me the best football memories of my life as a Browns fan and I will always wish him well. Here's hoping he digs himself out of this hole as he dug the Browns out of that hole in the classic 86 playoff game against the Jets. Hang in there Bernie. We still love you.

Sorry, Barry, but Kosar's legacy was tarnished as a result of all those years his ego begged for the spotlight after he retired. It was pretty pathetic.

Besides, during his entire career, the guy only made it into one single solitary Pro Bowl. That is it. One.

Let's be honest here: it's the Ilgauskas Syndrome. A slow dorky white guy with marginal talent spends a good number of years with Cleveland and says he likes Cleveland, and fans who think only with their hearts instead of their heads determine that Mr. Popularity is deserving and destined for a jersey retirement and the Hall of Fame. And all the slow dorky white guy Northeast Ohio sportswriters who see a lot of themselves in that slow dorky white guy are ever so eager to perpetuate the folk hero mythology.

By the way, why does Kosar owe the Browns money, let alone *$1.5 million!!!* Jeez. Precisely how many beers did Lerner let him put on his tab?

larry d. June 20, 2009 at 6:28 am

That is a good question, alan t.

Rumor has it that the Dolan's will come to Bernie's financial rescue so put away your wallet Alan.

alan t. June 20, 2009 at 10:59 am

You can bet your life it's just "rumor," Tim. The Dolans aren't in the business of charity, particularly to businessmen who make Danny Ferry look fiscally responsible by comparison.

I still want to know why he owes the Browns that boatload of cash. What did he do, beg Lerner for a loan to open a nationwide chain of "Bernie's I May Look Jewish, But My Deli Is Pure Hungarian" franchises?

Speaking of Bernie and being pathetic, this guy actually got his agent to get him a guest spot on Cleveland radio to announce that he was filing bankruptcy on that same day. He actually took a plane up from Florida for this express purpose. Bernie "Spin Control" Kosar.

My God, even now, this guy still believes he can salvage some of the Northeast Ohio spotlight for himself. As if Ohio still desperately wants him around. He simply just can't move on and let it all go.

You almost feel sorry for him, until you realize he had the fame and the fortune, and after his fame was gone he urinated his fortune away by spending his fortune desperately trying to hold on to the fame.

Kosar reminds me of former child actors who can't come to terms with reality, and spend the rest of their lives as a horrific complete mess. I'm almost waiting for him to eventually show up on a local version of that Dr. Drew show "Celebrity Rehab" for the money they pay the former celebrities to publicly detox. Bernie, Bruce Drennan and Donte Stallworth together on the same show. I smell ratings.

Show the man some sympathy. He is down on his luck like many other people. I wish him he best.
