A few questions were asked of the Cavs during Monday's interview about Charles Barkley's opinion that Orlando would beat the Cavs to win the East. But nobody asked about Chris Webber and Kenny Smith ridiculing Barkley's pick.
Is this not classic Cleveland sportsism – focusing on the one guy who picked against the Cavs and ignoring the two who picked them?
At any rate, here's what the Cavs said.
"I think," said Zydrunas Ilgauskas, "the best answer to that is us winning.
"Everyone's entitled to opinions," Joe Smith said. "We got to go out and play the games. It's nothing personal. I understand they have to make a choice."
I like Barkley because he's himself. He clearly has some personal issues in his life, but when he's on TV he calls it like he sees it. Who cares, really, that he picked against the Cavs? He has a right to his opinion, and he's supposed to have that opinion. And two other guys on the same show had differing opinions.
LeBron James does not seem to like Barkley a lot. His response on whether he had a comment on Barkley's predictions: "No."
Bottom line: Charles Barkley is a fat, irrelevant pompous has-been.
LeBron is a classy pro, the present and the future of the NBA. His unwillingness to even dignify Barkley's comments with any sort of response speaks volumes. Time to go away, Charles. You are officially disrespected.
I did appreciate the fact you put the video clip on your blog – the competing paper/website in town just pulled a Dustin Pedroia and fanned the flames.
So, who cares what he said? When Cleveland fans get bent about these things, they lose credibility in my opinion. Do any other cities in the world get their panties in a bunch the way we do?
If Charles is wrong when this is all over, I say we all pitch in and get him a Eastern Conference Championship t-shirt. Or some Cavs golf tees…
Trust in the King and the fellas… they'll take care of it. In the meantime, just keep a stiff upper lip and spend your energy supporting your team.
normally i would agree and call cribbs a crybaby and a diva. but this is the expansion cleveland browns we're talking about in this case. the most classless and inept organization in pro football. of course lerner promised to redo his deal and of course now he is playing dummy and pretending it never happened. a man's word is as good as paper to me and if randy doesn't want to honor his word then cribbs has no reason to honor his deal.
crap! wrong place for my post. oh well, i'll put it where it belongs and if you want to pat just boot my comments off this one.
I'm a reader of an excellent sports law blog, and this reminded me of the exact same unethical crap the media pulled last November and that blog's post about it. The media will do anything to call attention to themselves by fanning imaginary feuds. I'd like to know who the person was that asked James the question about Barkley's Orlando prediction, and then taser that guy in the nads for 10 minutes. If it was a female that asked him the question, then I suppose I'll have to taser a different but just as delicate body part.

And Elizabeth is right, why does anybody get "offended?" Any Cleveland fan who got upset by Barkley's reasoned opinion seriously needs to either get some semblance of a realistic perspective in life or just needs to move far, far, far away from The Mistake by the Lake.
