I honestly thought Boston would win Game 7 against Orlando, because … well … because they're Boston. They were 32-0 in Game 7s and Red Auerbach and Bailey Howell and Don Nelson bouncing free throws off the roof and Paul Pierce claiming Red guided one in against the Cavs last season (rolling eyes) and all that stuff.
The Celtics seemed to have some kind of mojo working as they won game after game even though Kevin Garnett was not playing. Cripes, it seemed like Boston and Chicago played 18 overtimes. And then they wiped out that Orlando lead in Game 5 and won and it just seemed like things were falling for them.
But Boston eventually became like Austin Powers — they lost the mojo.
That the Celtics were able to push Orlando to seven, though, says much about the Celtics and coach Doc Rivers. He got Rajon Rondo to play like a star — what's with the 15-rebound games? — and he made things work with Glen Davis and Kendrick Perkins inside and without Garnett. And … he made it work with Brian Scalabrine getting some significant minutes.
Pretty impressive run and pretty impressive heart. I won't miss them, but it was an impressive effort by Rivers and an impressive effort by his team.

i enjoyed watching the celtics. big baby and perkins played very well and rondo is tough. ray allen probably shouldn't be relied on for big minutes anymore. what i like the most was watching garnett in a suit running his mouth instead of running the floor. old school, right alan? hahahaha. i still think doc sucks as a coach and pierce should be an actor but the young guys played with a lot of passion.
now we get to watch sucky orlando. whoopie.
It was fantastic old school, terje. Totally. Only new-age 20 to 25-year-old dweebs, the brain-dead type who think the Gilbert arena sensory circus tent for retards is really, really entertaining and really, really exciting stuff, cannot appreciate the Celtics' sheer guts, not to mention Garnett jawing at guys on the floor while he's wearing a $2,000 suit. Eff U this, Eff U that. I love seeing that stuff. And the best thing about it, it was totally sincere. I think that is so cool. Seriously. I mean, if Garnett had been Danny Ferry, he would have been swinging a white bathroom towel over his head.
Pat – FYI: The Celtics have lost game 7s before. A few years back they lost a first round game 7 to the Pacers in Boston. I think what you meant was the Celtics were 32-0 when up 3-2 in a series.
