Fox's John Czarnecki writes that "there is no question that the new Browns' hierarchy seems to prefer Derek Anderson over fan-favorite Brady Quinn, despite the front office unwillingness to trade the Notre Dame kid prior to last month's draft." Depsite that, Czarnecki predicts Quinn will be the starter because he's a better practice player than Anderson.
OK, then.

Lets quit the B.S. and let the fella from Notre Dame have his day. I find it hard to believe that Brady Quinn has been so misjudged. If Cleveland does not start to support their players they will accomplish nothing.
Translation: "There's is no question that the new Browns' hierarchy stll wants to trade Derek Anderson and will keep the rumor mill churning to make some idiot GM beleive that Anderson is worth more than a conditional 5th round pick."
Im from Australia and Im i huge browns fan. They should keep B.Q aand Trade D.A as they can build a young team that they can build the future around. And dont forget about the markting of B.Q
This administration reminds me of Butch Davis' in terms of smoke screens and b.s. Do they really think the league is dumb enough to buy the following nontruths about Cleveland's QB situation?
1) The Browns were considering Mark Sanchez (which was a lie to boost the value of the No. 5 pick).
2) Derek Anderson is the favorite to start (which is a lie to boost Anderson's trade value).
In that vein, here is a recent development that irks me. Some members of the media have criticized coaches and players for being too candid. For example, when the coach says, "Yes. We know we're screwed." Or the player says, "Man, my coach needs to feed me the ball."
It sure beats the heck out of hearing "taking it one game/possession/inning/bag-of-potato-chips at a time" or this series of nontruths from Berea. Since when should members of the media prefer dull cliches to truth telling, regardless of whose feelings are hurt?
Oh, and keep up the good work, Pat. I envy your upcoming series of trips to L.A.
you all need to stfu and let quinn start
Lets see, the guy has no touch on the short pass, is easily rattled, can't manage the clock,…what's not to like?
Good one Tbomb! You forgot being SLOW & unable to read zone coverages.
I'm not being critical of either QB. The staff will decide regardless of who WE think should be under center.
I believe DA should get the start. It's not his fault receivers dropped balls last year.
That problem did NOT change when Quinn played. DA was the starter and was unjustly criticized for poor receiver performance. He hit his targets.
The receivers, including BE know what they have to do this year. catch the ball.
joepetro66 hit the nail right on the head. Naive suckers in the media willing to spit back out as gospel whatever they're being spoon-fed by folks with ulterior motives.
Has anyone outside of the Browns front office considered that DA is connected to BOTH Kokinis AND Mangini? That's why he may be considered the "front runner" for the Browns QB job. Think about it. Former Browns Personal doofos, Phil Savage traded WITH the Ravens, of which Kokinis was a member at the time, FOR Derek Anderson. Randy Lerner's father, Al was tied to the city of Baltimore on behalf of former Browns owner, (f)Art Model during the move from Cleveland to Baltimore, until Model took the money and moved the Browns TO Baltimore. During that time, the Lerner's became chummy with the Ravens' organization and familiar with their front office, including Kokinis AND Mangini, prompting Randy Lerner's "love affair" with Mangini who in turn touted Kokinis as the person he could best work with once he was fired from the Jets. Then the Browns went and grabbed DA off the Ravens waiver wire, who, by the way was a #3 behind Kyle Boller and…?, only to make him another #3 AND inactive for 14 games in 2005.
Does this look like another Cleveland Browns front office F-UP? It now appears the Browns are second guessing themselves after dumping a ton of money into Anderson and none of the triumphverate that had ANY connection to this sorted scenario wants to admit they made a mistake! Does NFL in this case mean 'Nother F'n Loser? So now, it may be that Anderson has been "unofficially" annoitted the starter while Brady struggles to show his stuff. HOWEVER, having said all that, I'm NOT convinced Quinn IS an NFL caliber QB, unfortunately, we the fans don't know and the front office isn't saying; or they just don't know themselves! Welcome to Cleveland Browns Football!
you're beyond an idiot, Tim, with all that BS.
The recievers were not catching DA's passes last year because he was throwing bullet trains at them. The recievers were not catching BQ's passes last year because they were not on the mark. Both of these situations were caused by stinking coaching. When players screwed up, Romeo handed out lolipops.
Mangini will change this.
The replies here typify Brown fans sadly. Fans don't see squat behind the scenes whether it's practice, film and so forth. Yet already as soon as those who are paid to do so and can evaluate say something contrary to the emotions of fans they turn on them.
Quinn is not a god or idol so why not let the FO do their jobs? Being from ND or growing up in Ohio doesn't give Quinn anymore advantage than anyone else for the QB position.
I want the best player period whether its Quinn, DA or Ratliff. All I ask it Mangini and CO do their jobs and get it right. That's what they are paid for.
This may certainly be a simplistic and unpopular perspective, but it seems evident the organization's best chance to win soon is to resurrect the Anderson-to-Edwards combination of 2007.
That being said, I'm completely comfortable allowing the coaches to do their jobs and for the competition to play itself out. Otherwise, you've got fan discontent, convinced the Golden Boy is being mis-handled and improperly evaluated.
So long as those sentiments endure, there will be counter-productive divisiveness—something that played a huge role in last season's disintegration.
Their offensive line and running game should be better this year based on free agency and draft picks. They boosted their receiver core as well. No more excuses. Give both D.A. and B.Q. plenty of snaps in pre-season and see who is best. Brilliant!!!!!!!
