These Browns trade rumors won't go away

by Pat McManamon on April 20, 2009

The draft approaches and the rumors continue to swirl that Brady Quinn and/or Braylon Edwards will be ex-Browns by the time the weekend is over. Nothing concrete, but rumors. "A general manger told me that he expects Cleveland to trade Brady Quinn this week but he's not sure what team he will be heading to," Mike Lombardi wrote on the National Football Post. "The prevailing feeling in the NFL is that the Browns like Mark Sanchez and have spent considerable time getting to know everything they can about him." Smoke continues to rise about this story, but as of yet no fire has been found.

Lombardi seems to have smoke coming out his a**. He's the only one pushing this story. Maybe finding another source might give it a little more cred?

Write it down! If Quinn is traded, we are not going with D.A. as a temp. starter or backup. It only points to the obvious drafting of a QB and bringing in a vet and Anderson is not that vet. I don't think I want to trade Quinn, but having no idea what Mangini thinks of him, anything is possible. If we dump both QB's and Braylon we are looking at lots of early picks[not to mention the dream scenario of trading down from 5] and there's a worse way for a new regime to start than with multiple picks in a deep draft[assuming they can evaluate talent].

I can't imagine the Browns trading Brady Quinn. He has intangibles that are required to be a successful quarterback in the NFL — leadership, a presence in the huddle, work ethic, charisma, quick learn, desire, passion, heart, intelligence and he is a winner. Mark my word, when he gets a chance with the Browns or another team, he will be successful and a winner. He reminds me of Bernie Kosar — a smart, hard working, winner with a lot of humility. A true leader.

Shame on you Randy Lerner if you allow the future of OUR TEAM to be traded away.

I hate that the Browns have always been so wishy washy with the quarterback position, but with this new regime I like the possibility, but it depends on what we get for Quinn. If we can somehow get Sanchez for Quinn, pull the trigger in a heartbeat, but I'm being too optimistic. Still imagine in a dream world:

Quinn for Sanchez
#5 Crabtree or Orakpo
#29 Wells or Hakeem Nicks (trade Braylon for this pick)
2nd Rd.—Knowshon Moreno or Clay Mathews Jr. (depending on who we drafted at #29)

I think Sanchez has a better attitude than Quinn, and just as much skill if not more. He doesn't have experience so we would have to groom him, but I think he has the confidence to be the guy.

The Browns should trade Braylon but not Quinn… Then build the Defense and also the Offensive line. Worry about the rest next off-season.
