If I'm the Browns, at this point I …

If I'm the Browns, at this point I am on the phone to Denver offering the Broncos the fifth overall pick for their two first-round picks (and perhaps an exchange of lower-round picks).

Denver wants Mark Sanchez of USC. The Broncos probably could get him at five.

The Browns need players. A trade down nets them another one, and saves them the expense of those ridiculous top five contracts.

This draft value chart gives the fifth pick a value of 1,700 points. Denver's picks at 12 and 18 have a value of 2,100 points, but if a team wants a quarterback it surrenders more than it has (see: Bears, Chicago, on Thursday). Another value chart (who the heck makes these things anyway???) puts a 1,500-point value on the fifth pick. Exchanging picks in lower rounds might bring the point-exchange closer.

No matter. This is a trade that seems doable, and this is a trade that makes sense.

i'd do it if i were the browns. if i were the broncos i'd want no part of it. in a draft this weak i wouldn't want to commit a bunch of guaranteed cash to a rookie who isn't all that. high drafts picks really don't have the pull they should because the rookie salary structure is so out of wack. the lions are browns are at the bottom for a reason. because they have drafted poorly and owed a lot of money to stiff after stiff.

    right on, my friend, Terje……..

terje, if the Broncos want Sanchez like pat says then they might do this. there is no way he slips to 12. we can swap our first second rounder for their second rounder and then the value might even out a bit. this is a good proposal pat.

If the Lions take an OL with the first pick, they may want to make a big splash and get back up there to get their QB, as well. Might energize the fan base the way Thomas and Quinn did for Cleveland. Getting Detroit's #20, #33, and #82 would fit under that value chart. I would jump on that deal, too.

That would be great. The problem is the Browns pick may be too high for Sanchez — if Denver can get him between 6 and 10 instead, it's a win-win for them. The pick costs them less in trade, and on the back-end, Sanchez comes cheaper than if he were the fifth pick.

The Browns should draft Sanchez and begin the auction for Quinn and Anderson!

Brilliant, Pat, trade down. I'm glad you see what a great deal this is[ FOR THE TEAM TRADING DOWN].The problem is who wants to trade up for a guy who might fall anyway and will cost too much in terms of salary and forfeited players and or picks. The game has changed… why trade up for Sanchez when Freeman might be the better player or McGee or White or Bomar….

Only one problemis if you think Freeman is even close to Sanchez then you need to think again. Sanchez is ready to start now or within a year Freeman is a project.

  9. Steve says:

Unless Sanchez is a target. Personally, I would like to have a QB with a stronger arm (notice I didn't say cannon) AND one who is more accurate than DA as well as Quinn short.

It seems Mangini is gutting the team and now would be the time to have a new QB with a higher upside.
