A couple Browns quarterback thoughts

by Pat McManamon on March 12, 2009

in Brady Quinn, Browns, Derek Anderson, McManamon

Former Browns Pro Personnel Director Jeremy Green now works for ESPN, and he recently held an online chat. He's a bright guy who should be back in the league. Whatever. Here's his answers on some Browns questions.

Who will be the starting quarterback, Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson?

"Quinn. Again what does (Eric) Mangini have to lose? The guys that drafted him are gone and if it does not pan out he gets a free pass."

What do you do with Anderson?

"Keep him … you need two guys. I am not sure his market is such that the value is there to move him."

And there you have it.

before Terje can call Jeremy Green an idiot, I'll do so. Anderson will not be on this team! He's gone for a second rounder.

Green might not be unaware that , as others have pointed out, Anderson will be quite affordable after we eat the roster bonus.Having said that , it's smart for Mangini to feign admiration for both QB's. Come draft day it's "yeah we have two young guys we like knock us out with an offer".

Somebody is going to offer a second-rounder for a career backup who enjoyed one wildly aberrant Pro Bowl season? Is Michael Phelps' bong being passed around this blog? Pass it this way, don't bogart the bong, man.

Green is absolutely right. Best of all, nobody on the Browns loses face if it doesn't work, either with Quinn or Anderson. It's a no-lose proposition.

actually, i'm for keeping both of them on the roster. if they get rid of anderson it will only give staypuft mangini an excuse to sign ken o'brien as a backup.

No brainer. Quinn should be the starter. Anderson lost this team last year and displayed terrible leadership skills. Time to give the kid a chance and see what he is capable of.
