I think St. Mary's will make it in, though one of the things that would keep them out is a Cleveland State win tonight – Go Vikes!
But they haven't beaten anyone this season, and if Patrick Mills isn't 100% (and he was awful last night), they really don't have a chance to win a tournament game. I believe in giving second-place mid-majors a chance over the seventh- and eighth-best teams in the big conferences, but I don't think it's a travesty if a team without a signature road win doesn't get in.
But with all that being said, I give St. Mary's all sorts of credit for scheduling another game for Friday in an effort to give them one more win and another chance to be on the mind of the voters. After last night's loss, the Gaels schedule another game, against Eastern Washington University. That's great work by the AD. Good stuff. I say put them in just for being aggressive about it.
St. Mary's should be in the NCAA tourney? Come on Pat. You have to be kidding me. Just look at their strength of schedule and RPI. 'nuff said!
