Actually, what local athletes *are* in the Olympics? I don't even consider James to be a "local athlete." Please. That's like living in a Spanish village and calling Picasso "the local artist." What AMATEUR local athletes are in the Olympics?

I'd love to see the local athletes that are participating on the front page. They've worked for years for this. And with school levies being turned down and the economy down, we need some good news about our youth.

I'm all for that, larry d. But only until Windhorst fully recovers, though. It's his rightful gig. Indeed, I even went on eBay and bought and sent Windhorst a Danny Ferry rookie card to the hospital. Really. If there's anything that will cheer that kid up and bring him back to perfect health, it's a Danny Ferry rookie card. I even had it laminated so Windhorst can keep it protected and carry it around in his wallet like Bob Costas carries his Mickey Mantle card around in his wallet.

In the meantime, I strongly urge the Beacon Journal's editors to post this on a daily basis in Windhorst's absence:

Ron I have a good idea.

Why not let alan t. operate Windhorst's blog on an interim basis. Alan knows a lot about the team and he truly possesses a mysterious gift for getting people to respond with passion.

Am I right to assume the Beacon Journal doesn't have the budget to send over a guy or two to China? Or are we going to be treated to wire service and syndicated retreads.

Heck, pool some local office resources together and send over Thomas. Evidently his Beacon Journal blog has already been deemed to be extinct, give the guy something to cover besides that evil big bad Big Ten Network.

Is there going to be any Amazon chick softball or ballroom dancing at this Olympics? Give George the order to cover it.

Run a story? What's to say? The guy has pneumonia. He'll get better and get back to work. There, there's your story. Who needs or wants to have notice of their diseases plastered in the newspaper? I had a bad case of hives a few weeks ago, I didn't call my buddy at the Columbus Dispatch and tell him to stop the presses. Give Windhorst the same courtesy.

Hello,
I heard that Brian Windhorst is very sick and I was wondering if the Beacon was going to run a story or somthing about it?

I dont think they are either, with a healthy rotation led by Brandon Webb and their lineup is hitting for them, which certainly helps.

With all that being said, Arizona is the best of the worst, to be honest. We'll see if this year is any different, and it isnt just the DH... the AL is simply head and shoulders better, offensively. The fact that the Indians' starters are putting up the kind of starts they are in the far superior league makes it that much more impressive in my mind.

Arizona's staff is awfully good, but the Indians have to be tops, simply by virtue of the teams they play. Offenses are absolutely lethal in the AL... Texas for example?
