UA football

With the stadium set to be completed for the '09 football season, is this upcoming season make or break for Zips coach J.D. Brookhart?

I would think AD Mack Rhoades would not want to fire a coach AFTER moving into new digs. So I do think J.D. needs a good season next year to keep the pressure off. I think the program is moving in the right direction but I also think that new stadium needs to be full for every game the first couple of seasons to prove its necessity.

The only way to do that is win. Period.

My friend, if the program is moving in the right direction, the on-field results are sorely lacking. Two consecutive awful seasons following the momentum of Frye's drafting and then a bowl appearance = BELOW AVERAGE PROGRESS, at best.

You said it, the only way for the stands to be full is for there to be a winning team, a MAC contender, on the field. Can that be accomplished with Brookhart? The players we saw this year were his recruits, and they were lucky to be 4-8. Now we've lost our WR threat and still have no idea if there is a D-1 QB on this bloated roster. Who's fault is that? Not mine.

I agree that the new stadium needs to be filled regularly in its first few seasons. Thinking about that, however, probably gives Brookhart MORE job security, not less.

Think about it: What are the chances of fielding a winning team in 2009 if you are starting over with a new coaching staff that season? If a move was going to be made it would have to be now not next year.
