Blog's role

by Ron Ledgard on November 29, 2007

in ABJ thoughts

As you guys can see I haven't blogged much in November. Partly due to vacation, partly due to some time to reflect on where to take this blog.

We have a Browns and Cavs blog, and our Indians writer has a weekly Q/A with readers, so I think it would be better for you guys to communicate with our writers on those subjects. We also have a great UA Zips blog that gives our coverage there some depth. We also have had great success with the high school blog, Varsity Letters.

The ideas I want to float are: should this be a blog that reflects on national stories or trends, or one that just offers a view of our thoughts inside the Beacon on local sports.

Comment or e-mail me with your thoughts.

The blog should cover whatever's on your mind, excepting the pro-Steelers sentiments that seem to ail you at times.

The "our thoughts" phrase you use is a little troublesome. A blog that offers some kind of consensus your staff has come to sounds like a drag and would be repetitive anyway.

If you have thoughts that are different from what your reporters write, it lends credibility to both you and your writers. It would also be interesting to readers who wonder how things work.

Whatever happened to McManamon and the washing of his dirty socks? Did goons at the Beacon Journal break his washing machine?

He's on a blog sabbatical, trying to come up with a better title for his regular column. I'd go with "Mac" something–the different 'Pat's' titles just haven't clicked.

Speaking of Pat, I haven't read an "open letter" to Anderson Varejao in, what, four or five days. He seems to take it personal. Embarrassing.

Good point, what's with all these ridiculous "open letters" to Varejao? First it was Pluto, and then it was McManamon. What the hell? These two guys seem to have their jobs and their newspapers confused with Facebook and MySpace. I haven't looked, how many friends do they have?

Well, there's Windy and Danny for sure. Then two guys–"The Savage" and "Sharpy"–I can't identify because they don't use their real names.
