At the same time, it might be a real hoot if the Windhorst/Pluto book comes out the same time Ferry gets his walking papers. It's starting to sound like the national guys smell blood in the water.

Seriously, what is the deal with the Ferry worship? I've been alive for five decades, and Akron's/Cleveland's sports print media has always been baby tooshie soft, but this has gotten completely out of hand. I've never seen anything like it.

Terry Pluto, well, he has reached a point in his career where he really answers to nobody but himself. He could have written that eating Franken Berry and Count Chocula for breakfast means that you should have more faith in Jesus Christ, and he could have written it in the Beacon Journal's sports section instead of in the religion section, and nobody would have even said "boo!" After all, this is the very same guy that wrote in the Plain Dealer's sports section that Paul Byrd should pray. I mean, the man even got his own billboard after he escaped from the Beacon Journal. It may have been the very first billboard in history to ever frighten deer and cause them to run blindly into traffic, but that's neither here nor there.

But what's with Windhorst and McManamon? Unlike Pluto, they're not sacred cows. Newspaper people are supposed to be objective with the teams they cover, aren't they? Oh, I know it's impossible not to have some kind of inherent bias, people are only human, but it's supposed to be suppressed and suppressed and suppressed and suppressed. But these two cats don't even seem to care. And the funny thing is, I strongly suspect that both of them are, in totally good faith, writing as if they don't have any bias, and that they both are totally oblivious to what is otherwise obvious to anybody who reads their stuff.

With all due respect, here's what I would do if I were in your shoes: I'd walk up to Thomas, and I'd say, "Hey, Round Mound of Rebound. Do you promise you'll drill the front offices of Cleveland sports franchises whenever warranted? And be aware, at times it may get so freakin' ridiculous, it may be warranted on a daily basis." If the big guy's answer is "Yes!" then clone Thomas, make the two Thomases both the Beacon Journal's Cavs beat writer and the Beacon Journal's sports columnist, and then suggest that Windhorst and McManamon apply for an internal job posting to wear headsets in the circulation department.

I'm not so sure that this idiot has ever had a "plan", or least one that isn't "offensive".
