Weekend rewind

Posted August 6th, 2007 by Ron

– I must admit that I am surprised how easy the Tigers and Indians have allowed the races to tighten in the American League. With the resent poor play by the AL Central leaders, the Mariners and Yankees are now only a half behind the Tigers for the wild card. And don't forget the Twins, who are just 4 1/2 behind the Tribe. Should make September interesting but it didn't have to be this way for either the Indians or Tigers.

– The Browns can point to good signs at camp, including big back Jamal Lewis seeming to have something to prove. But with Orpheus Roye getting hurt, Ryan Tucker getting suspended, Brady Quinn causing bad PR league-wide, something doesn't smell right, and I am not talking about the Stadium.

– Dario Franchitti's crash at Michigan International Speedway shows just how well all racing cars are built these days. Take a look at ESPN for the video.

– Dale Earnhardt Jr. draws the most fans to the race track and to the souvenir shop but right now, he would not be in the Chase for the Nextel Cup. It is kind of like the NBA not getting as much attention whent the Knicks, Celtics and Lakers all are not in the playoffs.

– Mike Tomlin won his first game with the Steelers on Sunday in Canton. He won't remind many of Bill Cowher, but astute observers might see a little Chuck Noll in the rookie head coach.

– Ohio State football is No. 10 in the coaches' poll behind Wisconsin and Michigan in the Big Ten. Seems about right for a team that doesn't know who will be quarterback.

– Tiger Woods … really, whatelse can you say? Maybe it is time for a statue next to the historic water tower at Firestone.

Why do you think OSU is undecided on a QB. Todd Boeckman is "the man," and several notches above Craig Krenzel's talent level. It's a shame we only get him for a year, because he will light it up this season. Third behind MI and WI? No way.

Ready to watch Shapiro & Wedge's latest boneheaded move backfire? First we give away Brian Tallet, Brandon Phillips and Jeremy Guthrie for nothing. But did we learn? Heck no. So Jason Stanford will shortly be starting and winning game after game for another contender…GUARANTEED. You can nearly form a World Series team from the guys our talent-evaluators have deemed insufficient to play in Cleveland!

But hey, what team needs a quality lefthander who can start or relieve? Certainly not US! The joke's on us, unfortunately, because Shapiro cannot obtain talent in return for guys we've wasted years developing. So we just give them away. Nice way to run a business….into the ground, that is.

Wow. I just flipped thru Brady Quinn's photo shoot pics on newsnet5's website, and my heart is racing. That boy is gorgeous beyond words. He really doesn't need this NFL gig; he could make a mint as a model. Too bad he has now lost the support of Browns fans with this moronic holdout. 86% of the respondants on the site's poll were anti-Quinn.

Son, I thought you were smarter than this. Doesn't having the chance to play for your lifelong-dream team count for anything? You could've owned this town, but Browns fans will turn on greedy holdouts so fast. And it's done.

The Quinn homoerotic fantasies from posters in these parts are putting the "easy" in "queasy."

  5. Browns Booster Says:

WHY, WHY, WHY are the Browns planning to waste another pre-season, as they did last year??? What good does it do, having our competing QBs on the bench the entire 2nd half?? These guys need GAME EXPOSURE and time to become comfortable IN A GAME using the new offense and new players. Ken Dorsey—the entire 2nd half?? WHY??!! Charlie gets one quarter…maybe 2 series?? Same for Derek?? What a friggin waste!!

Romeo did the same thing last year, giving Charlie NO EXTENDED PLAYING TIME going into the regular season, and he flopped. Practice is one thing….THESE GUYS NEED TO PLAY MOST OF EVERY PRE-SEASON GAME! They're not good enough to just watch and pray and wait for the regular season. WE HAVE TO READY TO GO, CRISP & EFFICIENT, FROM GAME 1. It will only happen if the REAL QBs get to play NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of fragrance, I AM talking about Cleveland's stadium aroma. What's the current sinus situation down there? I'm guessing that it no longer has that new car smell. It's bad enough the Browns will be carrying their own stench, but I don't think it would be fair to people buying the tickets to have to be subjected to any kind of literal whiff. Have they at least bleached that place?
