NBA problems

Posted July 23rd, 2007 by Ron

Fixing a game is bad enough but Bill Simmons of ESPN.com sums up the problems of the NBA quite well.

Here is a link.

Maybe this will be the real wake-up to NBA followers that the game is littered throughout with corruption and, frankly, bad people…both players and refs. Not all, but more than enough. Aren't we all tired of the spoiled rich boys' criminal antics? And now, on top of outrageously poor officiating (where "star" players are given 3-walking steps and other favoritism in calls), we learn that there's likely MOB involvement, point-shaving and game-altering gambling?

They want families to mortgage their lives, go in debt, to attend the farce games, while the boys who play ball are rewarded with millions upon millions and then act like jerks?? Wake-up, society. Is this really the way you want to waste your hard-earned paycheck?

This is proof that "the game is littered throughout with corruption, and frankly, bad people?" Well, I did think something was sorta odd when James got away with 36 baseline steps on his winning layup against Washington last year, so that may be a valid point. Maybe the Corleone Family was blackmailing Gloria James! Come to think of it, it can't be a coincidence that Marlon Brando and Al Pacino were seen sitting behind Eva Longoria!

You're right, Alan. Nothing's wrong. Everything's cool. We all see it your way, as usual.

(eyes roll, head shake in pity)

Yeah, if there's one thing you can rely on besides death and taxes, it's that old A.Tucker will come out and belittle anyone who states a common sense position on the subject at hand. If you say white, he says black. If you say ugly, he says pretty. If you say sweet, he says sour. Imagine having to live with that mind and petty arguments all the time.

Where's the proof that it's "littered with corruption and bad people?" Littered? So far it's one single guy. One guy too many, but one guy. I suppose we may see who else was involved, if anybody, but I'm guessing we'll learn it's a several very bad eggs at most, and the rest is what it's always been, which is fundamental ineptitude and incompetence.

When James took those 36 baseline steps, nobody was screaming the fix was in. They were screaming that refs let superstars get away with murder, and that some refs need to get laser vision surgery. That doesn't equate to "littered with corruption and bad people."

I mean, your post was basically fingering the thugs that play the game, not the thugs that supposedly fixed it. It's two completely separate issues.
