Draft night

by Ron Ledgard on June 28, 2007

in NBA

I remember when the joke was that ESPN was going to broadcast the entire NFL Draft.

Now the baseball draft is (awful) TV but nonetheless is on TV. The NHL Draft is prime time on a Friday night.

Then today I am sitting with my family for lunch at a national restaurant chain and what do I see 7 hours, let me repeat: 7 HOURS, before the draft … THE PREDRAFT SHOW.

Amazing!

Technically, that was part two of the pre-draft show. The day before, they also had the same show featuring the same talking heads.

Regardless, I don't see your point. Disney/ESPN relentlessly and relentlessly plugs their own programming, and the NBA draft is a relatively big deal for those interested in the NBA. So why not plug it? What would you have rather seen in its place, one of those maudlin pieces for Disney's Make-A-Wish Foundation?

Speaking of that foundation, why does Disney partner with Make-A-Wish? If this charity really granted wishes, then why is Dick Vitale still on the air?

As long as the talking heads on the Pre-Draft Marathon understand that they're only talking to a scant handful of people nationwide, go for it. More corporate dollars flushed down the crapper.
