No Kidding around

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

The Cavs should reach the Eastern Conference finals, taking 5 or 6 games to dispatch the Nets.

But, and this is a big but, if LeBron and Hughes settle for outside shots and no one slows the penetration of Jason Kidd, it could just as easily go the other way and just as fast.

If the Cavs keep Z involved and get a little more from Sasha that would help, but it still will come down to the Cavs defense stopping Kidd.

Weekend plans

Friday, May 4th, 2007

This weekend offers a variety of features.

Terry Pluto's view will be based all on the Browns and the story behind their draft and what the future might hold.

Patrick McManamon is writing several pieces including a column from Browns minicamp.

Sheldon Ocker will have his normal fare of Sunday column, mailbag and game coverage.

We also will have wire reports on the Kentucky Derby, the NASCAR race from Richmond and the De La Hoya-Mayweather throwdown from Las Vegas.

Also depending on what the Nets do Friday night with the Raptors, we will have a full breakdown of the series from Brian Windhorst and an NBA scout.

AL Central mojo

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Two years ago, the Chicago White Sox could do no wrong.
Last season, it was the Detroit Tigers.
It seems that the Tribe has picked up right there. The Indians aren't playing great baseball but they are winning.
As long as the bullpen holds up, the Tribe might be able to stay at the top all season.

Point in time

College basketball took the first step forward (or should I say backward) in moving the 3-point line Thursday.

Here is the AP story info: Two decades after adding the 3-point line, the NCAA men's basketball rules committee approved a measure Thursday that will move the line back one foot ` from 19 feet, 9 inches to 20 feet, 9 inches. If approved by the playing rules oversight committee on May 25, it would mark the first major change to 3-pointers since their adoption.ΒΆ The change would not take place until November 2008.ΒΆ

I think it would be great to make the shot a little more difficult, and it might help us in international basketball, as well. Plus it might bring the mid-range jump shot back to the game.

Not so fast

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Fausto Carmona looks like he just might be back with the Tribe with the injury to Jake Westbrook.

I guess the thing to remember is don't be so fast to jettison Carmona or Paul Byrd for some offensive or defensive help with a Tribe pitching staff that isn't tremendously deep this season. Now as Adam Miller and others get their arms major-league ready that could change.

But not yet.

Two quick Brown/Tribe updates

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

MLB turned down the Tribe's protest of the game Saturday night against the Orioles. No surprise, but it would be nice if the umpires got the ruling right at the right time. Ridiculous really.

The Browns cut Joe Andruzzi. No surprise, the guard really never made much of an impact. There was a reason that the Patriots let him go.
