SI: On Cavs

Ian Thomsen has an interesting story on the Cavs' failed attempt to land Mike Bibby at the trade deadline for those of you who forgot about that opportunity.

I clicked your link. Sorry, but I saw next to nothing about Bibby, which is why I clicked the link. All I saw is the usual media overkill. No pun intended.

Why is it that after a professional athlete endures a personal tragedy, they are portrayed by the media as a special kind of silent hero? Hughes, Ilgauskas, Tiger Woods, I can go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. It's ridiculous.

But getting back to my point (again, no pun intended), Hughes is not a point guard. He's not a shooting guard. He's not a passer. Not too great at defense, unless he's gambling the farm in a passing lane.

Ferry has a way with words, but "versatility" is often just code for not too proficient at any one thing. Like a "tweener" that's neither a small forward nor a power forward.

Hughes isn't bad, but is he worth five years of huge dollars on the salary cap?
