More Browns

Posted April 24th, 2007 by Ron

It seems the hottest rumors have the Raiders re-thinking taking JaMarcus Russell and maybe taking Calvin Johnson, the best player in the draft.

If that happens and Russell slips to No. 3, Phil Savage would have to snap him up. He has known him since Russell was in high school in Alabama. And the guy is just a huge player who would have little trouble throwing in the winds off Lake Erie.

But I get the sense, more fans would be happy if they took Brady Quinn.

And we all know Terry Pluto of the Beacon would be disappointed if the pick is anyone other than Joe Thomas or, possibly, Gaines Adams.

Patrick McManamon, our beat writer, will have his mock draft later this week.

I will be looking foreword to more on the draft.

Phil would never take a lineman that high in the draft, and I agree with that thinking. Too many overpaid busts who get lost in the blocking shuffle…and the Browns should know all about that, with Courtney Brown, Gerard Warren, et al.

Quickest fix for Cleveland is to upgrade the QB position. It was so obvious we were overmatched last year, game after game.

Are you kidding me??? If the Browns draft Quinn we will have another name to add to the list of wasted top 5 picks since 1999! QB is not the problem on the team. Let me ask this question. Who won the Heisman this past season? Troy Smith. How did he look in the National Championship game? That's right. Because his O-Line didn't block worth a darn. That's exactly why Frye looks bad and the same reason Quinn will be a bust if he is on the Browns. Joe Thomas is the pick. The only other option that makes sense is Peterson, but then they need to use the Rd #2 and also Rd #4 pick on and OL .
