Monday Notebook & Viewing Catch-Up

November 16, 2009

Local folks should have noticed that WJW is carrying the Browns-Ravens game tonight (which makes me shudder just to think about). Fox's new episodes of "House" and "Lie to Me" have been moved to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. (I am double-checking on the exact start time, since "House" usually runs an extra [...]

"The Amazing Race"

October 26, 2009

If you are thinking about being on "The Amazing Race," please take a close look at this picture. Commit it to memory. The show likes to challenge contestants. If you are afraid of heights, there's a pretty good chance you will face a situation where you have to deal with heights. If you hate the [...]

Monday Notebook, Catching Up on TV

September 28, 2009

In case you missed it, my story about the movie "More Than a Game" (with comments from director Kris Belman, coach Dru Joyce II and LeBron James) is here. I will have a review in the Beacon Journal later this week, but I think the Sunday story makes clear that the review will be favorable.
The [...]

Brief Notes

May 3, 2009

Subject for further consideration: The role of taxis and toilets in "The Amazing Race," and why it's better to go on yourself than to end up in fourth place behind a pair of obnoxious xenophobes.
Subject for further elaboration: Why the new "Star Trek" is the best "Trek" movie ever, and why it has had me [...]

"The Amazing Race"

April 19, 2009

With tonight's outcome all but preordained by the results a week ago, "Race" had two things to keep the episode interesting: the Margie/Luke vs. Kisha/Jen duel, and Tammy and Victor's taking advantage of their knowledge of Chinese. My favorite example of the latter: "If we don't win, our parents will cry themselves to death."

"The Amazing Race": Sharks

April 13, 2009

One of the best known lines from Woody Allen in "Annie Hall" is this: "A relationship, I think, is like a shark. You know? It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark." I'm not convinced that's a way to look at [...]

I've got a backlog of Thursday shows in my head, went to the movie "Taken" last night, watched a fair amount of Akron-Kent State basketball on TV and, [...]

D-I-V-O-R-See-Ya
The divorcees were eliminated on "The Amazing Race" were eliminated tonight, and man, did they deserve it. Not only because of the bad karma they created with a mocking conversation about whether they would make out with Dandrew (the frat boys). More because they are just so lousy at reading instructions, and were hurt twice [...]
