Yep, a suit in the "Mad Men" style, for $998 (or about $144 in 1963). Here's the word from AMC and Brooks Brothers:

"Mad Men"

As I said in my last post, I neglected to post about "Mad Men" a week ago, so I am doubling up tonight. Which, after seeing tonight's episode, does not seem like a bad idea …

Notebook: Emmys, "Mad Men"

September 20, 2009

In my previous post on what I'd have voted for in the Emmys, I listed 10 categories. My fave won in five (Chenoweth, Cryer, Emerson, Collette and "Mad Men" as drama) and I was OK with one other (Baldwin). I wasn't in the loop on four: drama supporting actress (Cherry Jones when I leaned toward [...]

If I Were An Emmy Voter…

September 18, 2009

After the jump, my faves in some acting and series categories, as well as some of those overlooked. As for the show, anyone planning to watch Sunday? And if you are, how much to see Neil Patrick Harris host, and how much because you care about who wins?

"Mad Men": "The Fog"/"The Arrangements"

September 13, 2009

I neglected to post on last week's "Mad Men." So, after the jump, some remarks on both last week's and tonight's telecasts.
Update: Because I focused only on some broad points that were on my mind immediately after the episode, you may also want to take a look at Alan Sepinwall's detailed analysis, which goes into [...]

"Mad Men": "My Old Kentucky Home"

The delicate, and sometimes brutal, dances among the characters were many on last night's "Mad Men." And my favorite may have been the nimble stepping by Joan Holloway …

Sunday Notebook

August 16, 2009

My DVD column is here. The "Hannah Montana" movie, as well as documentaries "Tyson," "The Garden" and "Audience of One," plus a compelling independent film, "The Poker House," directed and co-written by Lori Petty.
I am hoping to post some bonus DVD material here by Tuesday, when the newest releases come out, about some of the [...]

"Mad Men" E-Cards

August 14, 2009

I have a column for Sunday's Beacon Journal about the glories of "Mad Men" — and its small audience, and why that's a headache for people like the makers of the Emmy telecast. But "Mad Men" has unquestionably come up with a lot of different marketing connections. Including this one, "available only at Eightoclock.com":
The first-ever [...]

Sunday Notebook

August 2, 2009

I have a few thoughts about movies involving cooks and cooking, related to "Julie & Julia," which premieres Friday. I'll have a review of the movie later this week. Needless to say, the topic of my column could have included a lot of other things; there were scenes that I ended up cutting from my [...]

Fix the Emmys: 2009 Edition

July 16, 2009

I've already posted some notes, as well as writing a brief column covering some of the same ground for tomorrow's Beacon Journal. Now that I have complained, I am going to be — wait for it — pro-active and offer four ways the Emmys can make themselves better. To wit:
1. Kill the "best miniseries" category. [...]
