Harry Potter Rules the Movie World
Tuesday, September 11th, 2007So says Warner Bros., in an announcement proclaiming that the "Harry Potter" movies in total have now grossed more worldwide than any other film franchise, including "Star Wars" and James Bond. (Potter still trails top-ranked "Star Wars" and Bond at the North American box office, according to Box Office Mojo.

Warner gleefully notes there are still two Potter movies to come. Of course, there can still be more Bond movies — generations of them, casting permitting.

Harry Potter and the Cone of Silence
Thursday, July 19th, 2007The New York Times ran a review of "Deathly Hallows" today. (So did the Baltimore Sun, according to Romenesko.) And, as someone who ranted below about being told to hold back information on "The Simpsons Movie," I suppose I should shrug off the Times' move as them pursuing the news, and never mind the spoilers. But I'm not going to read the review, and I'm going to try to avoid every TV news and online discussion of the book that I can UNTIL I GET TO READ THE BOOK MYSELF.
That's a position that goes beyond not wanting to know how it ends. Even more, I want to read how it gets to the end — to see how Rowling leads us to her conclusion, and tries to make us accept it, whatever that conclusion may be.
In other words, I want to read the book.
And, on another topic, CONNIE BRITTON.

Harry Potter: The Books
Wednesday, June 27th, 2007Only so many hours in the day, right? Some things have to be put off. For instance, I have never sat and watched "Titanic" from beginning to end. And, until recently, I had never read a Harry Potter book — a situation I rather aggressively remedied …
