Another Blast at Dr. Phil

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

A Spears family rep chewed him up on "Today" today. Here's the network's brief:

In a live exclusive interview, the Spears family spokesperson, Lou Taylor, talked to Meredith Vieira about Dr. Phil's hospital visit with Britney Spears and his actions and statement thereafter. Taylor said, "This is just another example of trust really being betrayed, and being inappropriate." Taylor also said the Spears family was never going to appear on Dr. Phil's television show. She said that the family felt Dr. Phil acted "self-serving" and that he "compromised" their relationship with Britney. Taylor, who serves as the business manager for Britney Spears' father, mother, and younger sister, Jamie Lynn, talked to Vieira live this morning on NBC News' "Today."

I especially like this line: "What's wrong with Dr. Phil's statement is that he made a
statement."

Dr. Phil Drops Britney Show

Dr Phil

Amid mounting criticism (and the diminishing possiblity of getting Spears family members on the air), Dr. Phil has dropped his plan to devote his show to the Brit situation. The statement on his Web site goes like this:

"As was widely reported this weekend, at the request of concerned family members, I visited Britney Spears in the hospital. The details of that visit will, of course, remain private.
"We had planned to tape a Dr. Phil Now show today, focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney’s latest problems, but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case. Clearly, it is not just Britney's family struggling to find a way to protect adult children who cannot be ordered or compelled to seek help.

"Because the Spears situation is too intense at this time, and out of consideration to the family, I have made the decision not to move forward with the taping at this particular time.

"Britney and her family are in our prayers, and we ask that they be in yours."
