Without going back to the previous episodes, I suspect we've gotten some TV math going with the students' year -- a common problem in shows set in high school. Santiago is just gone; I don't think they could have had him and Lyla in Buddy's place, especially if they were going the way they did with Riggins and Lyla. Tami's promotion is a surprise, but they seem to be tacitly admitting that -- she's clearly not prepared to be principal, and the vice principal had the attitude of someone who felt the top job was going to be his. Don't know Texas HS football rules. But, like you, I'll suspend disbelief as long as the show is good.

The FNL premiere was quite good, though I'm finding myself having some issues with it. I'm really having a hard time believing Riggins and Lyla (and, to a lesser extent, Tyra) are seniors. Perhaps had it not been for the strike, they would've been seniors last year? What happened to the young man that Buddy was sponsoring the previous year? There was no mention made of him whatsoever. Wouldn't the Texas High School Athletic Commission have some sort of rule against freshmen playing varsity football? And, exactly what type of credentials does Tami have to be principal? I can't even argue that she got the job because of her husband, since he's on the hot seat himself right now.

But, I'm sure over the course of the remaining twelve weeks, I'll regain my suspension of disbelief, particularly as long as the Riggins boys continue mixing things up in Dillon.
