Actually... Are you sure there would have been time for the teens to get "saturated in Doors music"? The movie came out specifically on March 1, 1991. That show first aired on January 31, 1991. I see a chronology problem here. How about you????

I was a freshman in high school when The Doors came out, and I can promise you my fellow students were suddenly awash in newfound interest in the band's music. The movie might not have been a huge hit, and it's not that great a movie, but the publicity push around it brought new awareness of The Doors to a lot of young people. The first CD my husband ever bought when he was given his first CD player for Christmas 1991 was the movie's soundtrack.

I meant the band is perennial, not the movie.

I will concede that "The Doors" are perennial. But Oliver Stone's movie was not a big box-office success, ranking 39th in revenues among movies that year according to Box Office Mojo. And for a show that is so obsessed with being cool and contemporary (hence the MC Hammer references), the "Doors" line seemed a bit left-field, more something fitting writer Charles Rosin than Brenda.

"Brenda refers to Brandon getting a "come on baby, light my fire" look, which suggests Brenda has been trolling Jim and Cindy's music collection instead of her own."

Oliver Stone's movie The Doors, starring then-heartthrob Val Kilmer, was released in the spring of 1991, so LOTS of teens were saturated in Doors music at that point.

Brandon really acts crazier than usual in this episode. I know Jason Priestley was trying his best with the material he was given, but sometimes you just want to smack Brandon. I loved that they at least pointed out that he was being unbearable and that everyone is tired of pretending to care about his flavor of the week.

I had forgotten the name of that Debbie Gibson album. I was smack in the middle of her target demographic -- I probably can still sing the entirety of the "Out of the Blue" album, and I auditioned for 8th grade drill team to "Electric Youth" -- but I had moved on by the time "Anything Is Possible" came out.
