I think Cook suffered the entire competition because the songs he wants to sing are simply longer than Archuletta's vocal pop stuff. I hope he sails in Daughtry's direction and doesn't end up in Bo Bice land. I hadn't realized how much I wanted DC to win until I found myself crying last night. Have to get a grip – gas $4 a gallon, the planet in crisis, Ted Kennedy dying of brain tumor – DC will survive regardless of tonight's results.

I think you've got two mindsets here: for Archuletta, winning the show is the end-all-be-all; for Cook, he got the exposure and the opportunity out of it. Winning the title isn't everything – I think the opportunity is the 'one shining winning moment in time of our lives and destiny and rainbows and puppies and sunshine' for AI. (Guess I should've entered the songwriting contest…)
I TOTALLY agree on the boxing metaphor. Egads! You cut Lampley out of the program and the gys could've sang the songs in their entirety. (Although the snippet of round 2 would suffice).
