I was unclear about the brother, Ann. I was thinking of earlier in the season, when he was in the audience, not this week. Sherry, you raise a good point about where the other contestants' votes go; I just don't know how many do turn to other contestants, and how many just stop voting. Nor am I sure which way those votes would go. I could see Brooke fans, for instance, going to Archie and maybe even some Jason fans.

I've always thought that people vote with different criteria for the final two votes. Up until then, they might vote emotionally or for that week's performance. But the finals are for the win. I've been a David Cook fan since day one, mostly because I was always excited to hear what he was going to sing each week. Even within his signature sound, it was fun to see what he would do with the theme. I think the Daughtry debacle did play into people's minds, esp. after Carly and MJ were voted off.

I think Tues. night was interesting. All season, Randy has been praising DA and Cowell DC, but Tues., it was all DA. Cowell even slammed the new songs, and what could there possibly to pick from? So, did Simon push DC fans to the phones? Was he asked to upplay DA by the producers? Did DA encoring Imagine help him or hurt him, since (I thought anyway) that it was a reminder of the fact that he hasn't changed, while DC really has transformed (the "journey" package on him is amazing - it's like a year has passed, not just three months - I think maybe he's lost weight).

BTW, I think the brother in the audience is not the one with cancer. I read somewhere yesterday that the brother with cancer is 36 and a lawyer (he made it to one show in a medifac plane). Andrew, the one I kept seeing and who was there last night, is younger.

I wouldn't have been surprised with either winner, and for that matter, with anyone past the top 7 winning the show.

I see a lot of merit to your points and I especially agree with the idea that killing Archie with kindness played a hand in it. I'm a long-time Cook fan and I know that after Michael's elimination shocked so many a lot of the Cook fans took on a "hell no" mentality in that they weren't going to sit back and rest when there was voting to do. Therefore, when everyone sang Archie's praises, the Cook fans devoted every second to voting after the show.

I think one thing you need to add is all the previous contestant fans. Whenever someone is eliminated, you have to ask where their votes will go. I think Cook got an awful lot of the Michael, Brooke, Carly, and Jason fans. With Syesha it was hard to tell where the fans would turn, but I think the large lead was due to David Cook having a big fan base and amassing more of the others than Archie did.

Finally, while I thought DC did great on Tuesday, so did Archie, and I think there may have been a lot of voters who voted based on the season in its entirety and not as many people voting just based on one night.
