Oscar Watch, Part 6: Best Actress, Marion Cotillard, Bleh

by Rich Heldenfels on February 24, 2008

in Academy Awards

Another parade of previous-winner clips. Forest Whitaker presents.

Marion Cotillard wins. Ick. Yuck. As I have said before, I would give this to anyone else in the category, including Laura Linney, and I haven't even seen her performance. Cotillard is way excited. "Thank you, life, thank you, love. It is true there are angels in this city."

What didn't you like about Cotillard in La Vie en Rose? I was very happy to see her get it, because her performance really moved me. I adored that movie, and I'd never even heard of Edith Piaf before. I thought she showed incredible talents, playing her at all those ages, etc. I saw Away From Her and didn't think that required nearly the acting skills that Marion used. (I can't say about the others, having not seen them). But then again, I so rarely can figure out what the Academy thinks is good acting, so…it just totally surprised me that for once we agreed!
