"American Idol" Flashback: Robbie Carrico

If you're wondering about rocker Robbie Carrico's boy-band past (mentioned but not detailed on tonight's "Idol"), maybe this pic from a fan site will ring a bell. More after the jump. ….
He was part of a group called Boyz-N-Girlz United, below.

They did some recording before breaking up. (i found that group photo on Amazon.com along with an old CD for sale.) In addition, The Hollywood Gossip site has an old clipping of him with Britney Spears, and identified as her boyfriend. Looks like this:

Should have been listening more than Googling, since I heard some people I liked, including Corliss Smith, who looked rather older than 20, and Brittany Wescott, also allegedly 20. But I think that Suzanne Toon, 21, got through more on the strength of her story than her singing. And the contestant from "American Juniors" sounded better when she was 12.

I know you've discussed previously the whole idea of AI playing fast and loose with their "no professionals" rule, hence Robbie Carrico tonight. But shouldn't that girl who had been a contestant on American Juniors have been dismissed sight unseen since it was from the same production company? I have to think that had she actually been any good, that might have forced their hand in that matter, but someone wanted to see if she was bad, so at least there would be something humorous to show once she sang in front of Simon, Randy, and Paula.

As you know, the show lets through a fair number of people who are obviously ineligible — especially because of their age — just for the sake of entertainment value. I don't know if her involvement in "American Juniors" would have rendered her ineligible, considering the people they've been letting through. But the producers obviously thought she would be amusing. I mean, those over-practiced gestures were comical even before the judges said anything.
