The Nutty Idea of the Day

Posted January 11th, 2008 by Rich Heldenfels

I believe that there is no idea so bizarre that someone won't put my money behind it. Witness the item from "Extra!" after the jump …

“Extra” goes on rumor control with action movie icon Sylvester Stallone about the reports that there will be a Rocky musical. “Yes. I believe that's going to happen. I have nothing to do with it. I wrote the story for it, but it’s being turned over to the pros and looks like that's going to happen,” Stallone reveals.

You'll leave the theater humming, "Yo, Adrian." Or they'll mosh the sequels into the musical just so someone can sing "I Pity the Fool."

But that's not the day's nutty idea. It's this: Younger Son and I were discussing "Walk Hard" and agreeing that the funniest scene in the movie is the one with the Beatles (played by Jack Black as Paul, Paul Rudd as John, Jason Schwartzman as Ringo and Justin Long as George). The first thought: that there's a movie to be done just with those four guys as the Beatles. But that wasn't odd enough for me. I'm thinking of a variation on "Waiting for Godot," with George and Ringo waiting for the other guys to show up.

Hey, I'd go see it. Or maybe not. But it's the sort of thought that filled some time as Friday wound down.

I could get behind that movie. Maybe not the Waiting for Godot bit, but the Beatles scene was definitely the funniest in Walk Hard.

What song will they sing when Rocky is in Australia fighting kangaroos and is busted with 48 vials of human growth hormone in his luggage and hotel room?

    Stallone. Whatta chest-shaving 'roid-injecting chump.
