Slogging Through Harry Potter: The Movies

It was about 15 minutes into "Chamber of Secrets" that I decided I had had enough Potter onscreen for one day …

I expect to get through the four movies before seeing the fifth one, but it's no fun so far. However good Rowling is at crisp pacing and exciting set pieces, the first movie dragged — and the second one felt slow at the start. The scenes with Harry and Dobby looked especially awkward, as if Radcliffe had not quite figured how to match the tempo planned once the effects were in place.

So I mainly amused myself by noting how the actors had changed in terms of height and voice since the first movie. And that wasn't enough motivation to make me sit still for 2 hours and 40 minutes. Not today, anyway.

I hope these things get better.

If it helps, Chamber of Secrets is my least favorite Potter film so far. The beginning *is* really sort of painful. For me, Dobby is to Harry Potter what Jar-Jar was to Star Wars. But I do get a kick out of Kenneth Branagh — so it'll be worth muddling through later, if only for that.

Duly noted, Kris. And to everyone else: Kris is the HeldenFiles' famous Target Demo. She's recovering from a weekend mishap, so keep a good thought for her.
