What I meant was that, when the episode was made, it was still considered a season finale, since there was a chance of the show returning. Only after the episode was completed -- but before it aired -- did The CW announce that the show would not be back. So I was thinking that, for a series finale, it sure looked as if everyone involved was preparing for the end of the series. That said, I can't help but think of what might have followed -- Rory on the road, Lorelai dining solo with her parents, Lorelai and Luke dining with her parents, Emily running the inn's spa ... There was room for more.

I think they actually said at the start of the episode that it would be a series finale...I liked it a lot too! I'm very sentimental about Gilmore Girls, and I'm glad Lorelai and Luke are finally together again.

While I appreciate last night's themes, I really missed Amy Sherman-Palladino. I swear (and I am not exagerating) I could have written every word of dialog last night - there was no specialness, no spark. I've been mostly toggling between GG and Idol this season and now I know why. The basic, entry-level writing just made the entire debacle that much more sad.
