"Kitchen Confidential" on DVD

Posted April 23rd, 2007 by Rich Heldenfels

In the previous post, I admitted to a Crankypants moment. Easing it considerably is my review copy of "Kitchen Confidential." …

Regular readers of my blog know how fond I was of the Fox comedy, based loosely on Anthony Bourdain's book of the same name. But the series never got a fair shot, with repeated yankings from the air, making cancellation no surprise.

Still, Fox Home Entertainment will offer some consolation on May 22 when it releases the show's 13 episodes on DVD Extras aren't much: a couple of commentaries, a making-of segment. Still, I did a little episode sampling today, and it's still funny — and deserved a better chance to find an audience.

I'm glad it's going to be on DVD. It had a good cast, and semi-good writing that was just begining to find itself. Too bad FOX had to move it to a bad time slot, and then not give it a chance… Like they always do!

Great underrated sitcom. Another bonehead early cancellation by Fox.

I'm SO excited for the DVD!
Even though Fox is notorious for axing shows too early in the game, it is still pretty good at releasing these canceled shows (to get a second life on DVD)…so I guess they should get some credit (where as some other canceled shows from other studios don't get to live on DVD at all.)

My husband and I really enjoyed Kitchen Confidential, too. I'm glad it's now on DVD. Fox treated it horribly — I mean, they had to know that airing the first three episodes then scheduling the fourth episode two months later would only hurt it. Wankers.
