Wow.

What a wonderful piece of writing, Rich.

I look forward to each episode of "Friday Night Lights" because it always shows me somehting about the human condition I have experienced at one time or another.

And despite the horrible things these people do to each other and themselves, there always is a sense of hope: you mentioned Buddy, and the scenes where he hugged his ostracized daughter and made it clear he would be there unconditionally for her were as good as television gets.

Maybe that is because that would be about as good as a Dad gets.

At any rate, thanks for the wonderfully thoughtful and warm words about such a special program

This is exactly why I watch this show-the relationships. The coach and his wife are so NORMAL. The kids' problems are real, and the same thing our kids face everyday. The Matt and Julie storyline is one of the most thoughtful, well-written I've ever seen.

The cast represents a huge range of economic and social situations, just like real life, but every story line has hope in it.

If this show was called "Dillon Texas" or something, maybe people would have checked it out at the start. With 'football' in the title, I'm afraid it's kept people away. What is it they say? "It's the best show you're not watching". I only hope that it gains viewers in time to keep it around for a long time.

*on a side note, it's now going to be opposite my favorite show...thank heaven for DVR!
