I still haven't watched last night's show, so an extended recap/rumination will have to wait. (Come on, wasn't that "Sesame Street" dialogue a good alternative?) But I did check out tonight's results — Patrice, Magni and Toby in the bottom three and ……….. Patrice finally bid one and all adieu.

We've seen this coming. In fact, the guys made clear that her repeated appearances in the bottom three were a factor in her elimination. Also, she isn't that good — and she made that even more evident tonight when her please-don't-toss-me song was "Middle of the Road." (Magni went Hendrix, Toby to STP.) Pretenders songs sound great on the radio, but they're not easy to sing; Akron's own Chrissie Hynde remains a unique, hard-to-match vocalist. Patrice just wasn't up to it.

Shocker: Both Jill and Josh get sent home by Supernova!

Bottom three was a surprise, with Jill, Josh and Ryan. I could see Jill but would have put in Zayra (who was awful instead of humorous) and possibly Patrice; maybe the vote was close, since there were points when Patrice and Zayra were in the bottom three, though not apparently at the end. But the show didn't offer any vote specifics.

Jill's save-me performance was "Respect," screechy and overwrought, and I would have dumped her if I could only have taken one. Josh went with Bad Company's "Shooting Star," which was OK; I've been getting to like him more just as he's leaving. And Ryan did Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence," my favorite performance of the three on tonight's show.

By the way, Is my girl Dilana too good? Solid performance last night, big props for singing with Gilby — and no encore. Those went to Lukas for "Creep" (and he may have sounded even better on tonight's show) and Magni, who did "The Dolphin's Cry" electrically this time, and was reasonably impressive.

Mildly surprised that Lukas wasn't in the bottom three, but not shocked. He has had a following that has kept him alive when his singing is atrocious, and that Lukas Lobby prevailed again. In fact, as I said in last night's post, I think there's a lot of dullness coming off the guys, and I wouldn't have minded seeing Josh, Toby or both in the bottom three — and Toby at least came close.

So am I wondering if there's an anti-woman thing in a vote that ends up with Jill, Dana and Patrice in the bottom three? A little, but not hugely. I suspect — or, more precisely, hope — that Dilana and Storm are big with voters, and Zayra passed through as comic relief.

Besides, I  wasn't knocked out by any Jill/Dana/Patrice on Tuesday's show and Dana — who has now gone bye-bye — was quite unremarkable, especially for someone who closed the show.

While I felt Patrice might have been helped by being part of the Tommy showcase, I underestimated how much people would think Tommy overshadowed her; I think I expected voters to be smart enough to recognize how much the camera work and editing pushed her aside in favor of Tommy shots.

Anyway, tonight did offer a chance for redemption (after the usual blah-blah and Ryan getting the encore).

Jill started with Heart's "Alone." She sounded a lot better than she did on Tuesday's show, mainly because she sang instead of shouted, but I still wasn't impressed. She's almost as dull as some of the guys.

Dana followed with "House of the Rising Sun," starting so woefully that I scribbled ''still bad" in my notes; she got better as the song went along but still seemed to be relying on a talky style more than singing.

Patrice finished with Jeff Buckley's "Eternal Life" and was SO much better than on Tuesday that I immediately wanted her to stay. I at first marked Dana to go, then went back and forth between her and Jill, so I'm not kicking over the judges' decision.
