It's a typical benevolent leading man role for him but I still think it ranks among his best performances. There's a decency about him that people could just sense. Did you also know that Glenn Ford was a commissioned officer in the US Naval Reserve and went on live missions during Vietnam? It's true. This guy was solid and we're gonna miss him. Shirley Jones made a statement during the last couple of days that there aren't many of these people left. She's correct of course...and that's sad.
