Things seemed to be falling into place a little too nicely and there are enough crime shows out that it faded into the pack. Coincedentally, I just watched the Studio 60 pilot from NetFlix and you were absolutely correct about the darkness of the show. There were times where you had to look pretty closely to see the facial expressions. I did really like it though and will be interested to see the public/media reaction to the scene discussing The 700 Club.
