Actually many of the current scientist that were promoting the Blood and Gore Project(Their nick name for their company not mine) Have decided that the current warming trend ended in 1998/99. I guess we are in a "better make sure mode" so send Rev Gore your redemptive fees and get healed and saved!!!

We probably need to send some 'pointed headed guys with briefcases' full of these charts up to Hudson Bay, Greenland, rtc. to reassure the Inuits etc.

Frye,
As the charts I included showed, the planet has gotten warmer over the past century. All I'm attempting to do is show the recent trends, that the IPCC's temperature predictions made in 2001 have been wrong, by a lot. Why isn't this even being considered in the global warming debate ? It's like the info doesn't even exist. The problem with the man-made global warming debate in this country is that the media and government almost exclusively shows only one side of the debate, the Algorean's side. The rest of the science is marginalized or ignored. Whatever the ultimate answer proves to be (and I don't pretend to know), we should all get suspicious when the Algoreans refuse to even debate the issue, we should all get suspicious when scientific information is suppressed, and we should all get suspicious when we are told a scientific consensus exists when it does not.

Here's some counter information about those melting glaciers.

http://www.iceagenow.com/Growing_Glaciers.htm

And here's an alternative view to man-made global warming (that wasn't reported either).

alchemist,
As a scientist, wouldn't you agree that increased CO2 levels contribute to a greening of the planet ?

Andrea,
Nobody is questioning my source because my sources are listed in the graph. They are Hadley and UAH, two of the major global temperature tracking outfits.

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were trying to discredit the science to fit your predetermined agenda.

Yes I understand that other things can cause global warming besides human activity, things totally beyond our control, but I thought the gist of this blog was that attempts to predict it as shown in charts were totally off. They may be off but the globe is certainly getting warmer - or are those clips of ice mountains disintegrating fake?

Yes it could be something else, but there seems to be a high corrolation with the amount of CO2 in the air and there seem to be lots and lots of scientists who think there's a connection. Maybe you should blog thgat although the globe IS warming, it ain't our fault.

alchemist - I admire you for being a scientist. Did you ever consider that maybe this is just natural and climate change will occur whether we want it to or not? What is the difference between concreting and heat absorbed through the desert? What % of the planet is actually concreted or developed? Is that being taken into consideration? Why all of the lies about the ice caps and the receding of the polar caps. Why when there are just as many scientists that disagree with this hypothesis is our govt rushing this through congress?
CO2 reduction is the cash part of the equation. The part where Gore and his band of theives and socialist pirates make a killing off of the American people.
I agree that man has probably done some things to hurt our environment, I get suspicious when people lie, make stuff up and cause people to panic to make a ton of cash.

I still don't understand how carbon credits are supposed to help the environment in any way. Isn't that supposed to be the point of them? If not, then what the heck *is* the point, other than to assuage the guilt of many and line the pockets of a few? Can someone please explain that to me, or is it just one of those things that Gore told you was a good thing to do, so it must be?

pdt1420 The climate has never changed for "no reason at all" -- volcanoes spew dust and sulphate aerosols into the atmosphere and the droplets and particles reflected the sunlight back into space aaaaaaaaaand the world got cooler. There is a reason for the change in the climate we expect in the near future -- besides the CO2 there is also the decimation of the forests and concreting and asphalting of cities and many many more humans that there have ever been before in the history of the world. There are lots of reasons why the climate is changing and many many of they are because of humans. BUT I personally suspect reducing CO2 emissions will not be enough to stop climate change and by the way I am a real scientist -- I make my living by being a scientist. Perhaps that super volcano the scientists are talking about that is possibly developing under Mount St Helens will erupt and reduce the sunlight and the population and everything will be hunky dorey again. Then what would you guys argue about?

Rev , There are no big polluters in our country today. We have lost 60% of our industrial jobs to other countries. In the past yes. Have we cleaned it up? Yes. Cap and trade was invented to make big investors gobs of cash, just ask Blood and Gore (Their nickname). It is capitalism legislated on the backs of the American people. Americans are being forced to pay the burden through legislation and Wall Street is going to make gobs and gobs of cash trading this fictious commodity.

Do you really think we need tax increases Rev? Does California need increases? How about responsible spending and spending within our means. Maybe balancing a budget instead of spending like drunk sailors to advance our special interest groups and the power brokers that funded the poilitical campaigns. We waste so much money and we are being robbed of so much money it is pathetic.

Do we need to ween ourselves off of oil dependence. Yes. Here is how. Drill our own and develope energy alternatives that work without breaking the backs of Americans. We do not have energy alternatives that are cost effective. They are still in the developmental stages and we have time. There is a great opportunity here for everyone to make a living developing these technologies, it won't happen the way they are going about it. But our govt would rather create a false emergency as usual and hammer out the details later.

"Those who argue that scientific evidence proves absolutely nothing….should rest easy."
Praise Al Gore and hallelujah. Your savior has saved us.
Religion works doesn't it. Let's see.. Al Gore flyes private jets all over and has people brainwashed into following him. Sounds sort of like many of our current day preachers. Just send us the money and we will save your soul.
Only difference is we have the choice to follow the preachers. Rev Gore is getting Washington to legislate his future riches.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Alchemist, what % of the world's other fossil fuels do we have?

Your comment about the earth being hotter and colder in the past belies your belief that this bit of climate change is man made.

And in fact, when it has been hotter in the near past, and colder in the near past, it was populated by humans.

angry,

Thanks for pointing that out. California has been the proving ground for all these liberal ideas over the past couple decades. They have all the resources, area, population, and economy to be a successful country, let alone state.

They're failing. Miserably. As Rev Wright once said, their chickens are coming home to roost.

Now we're supposed to copy some of their policies federally.

North America contains 16% of the world's oil reserves and 90% of that is in Canada. Now how are going to use out reserves to supply our oil needs. Also you can argue all day about whether you believe in climate change or not. The problem is that when the earth was HOTTER or COLDER in the past it was not covered with humans. There was enough space and enough slack in the system to accommodate the change.

Did someone mention the California meltdown?
Old thinking----they spent themselves into bankruptcy by feeding the insastiable ever growing gov. bureacracy and creating never ending public spending programs.
new thinking----they are in a financial meltdown because they wont raise taxes
old thinking-- action: quit spending beyond means
new thinking--- action: raise taxes to cover near term shortfall and ignore long term consequences

Rev, I think the answer to whether we'd be better off without fossil fuels could be argued "no".

Fossil fuels are like a miracle concoction that we've been able to crack open into millions of uses.

And with an increase in efficiency and our huge advances in environmental technologies, half of the "negatives" of fossil fuels (environmental, dependence on other countries) are being negated daily. The other half could be solved by utilizing our own reserves.

And with an increase in efficiency and our huge advances in environmental technologies, half of the "negatives" of fossil fuels (environmental, dependence on other countries) are being negated daily. The other half could be solved by utilizing our own reserves.

Well, the tea party folks are....kinda...nuts, but we digress.

Would America be better off if we reduced our dependency on fossil fuel, in particular, oil?

If the answer is yes....then carbon reduction efforts should be understood within that parameter.

If the answer is no....then there's nothing left to talk about.

One other comment to Tory's observations. A carbon tax would have been my preference....but in America today, any new taxes, like Osama Bin Laden, are seen as an enemy of the state. Prime example....California's financial meltdown....self-destruction rather than tax increases. Ignorant political bondage. Ohio's situation is comparable.

The cap and trade concept is a bone to big polluters and big "investor-traders." Now that capitalism in America has gone to seed....the only motivator we accept is greed.

That said, the bill, as I understand it, is fraught with problems, and probably won't get through the senate.

Those who argue that scientific evidence proves absolutely nothing....should rest easy.

So Alan Carlin is a liar because he is saying that global warming is a lie? A half degree increase WTF. Think about that. How did they come to that conclusion? The earth has a fever? A persons temp can vary by 1 to 1.5 degrees and not be considered a fever. Are you kidding me? In this entire universe with a sun that does not burn at a constant temperature and all of the space between it and us, we take a .5 change in temp as the "sky is falling"? So now they are blaming it on CO2 and the new term is climate change. People are really taking this stuff serious? This is about the money folks. They have scared the population out of their wits about what is going to happen if they don't pay. Rev this sounds like the church doesn't it. We will burn to death if we don't do something. Give me a break. And they say the tea party people are nuts?

The global warming purists cite the receding ice cap in Eastern Anartica as further proof of global warming. What they fail to tell you is that in the larger Western Anartica region the ice caps are not only not receding but growing in thickness which has resutled in a net gain of ice. This is but another example of the narrative being more important than the facts.

Frye, melting ice caps/glaciers doesn't necessarily show that humans are to blame. The planet has a history of that.

I understand what they are, but I don't get the point. Why not buy some farmland and plant a forest? It just seems like it's more of a tax on guilt and stupidity than anything. I'm trying to figure out what, if anything, will be done with the money you spend on a carbon credit. Well, aside from buying Al Gore another SUV...

Tory - Carbon Credits are new items to the commodities market. They are going to make Gore, Blood, Soros the dem and rep politicians that sign on(like McCain, Pelosi, Reid etc) and our other leaders Mega-rich. This is a new commodity with built in profits until the year 2050. This is not about saving the planet, this is about wealth and power, period. If you can, check out Rolling Stone Mag this month.

My big question about global warming is this: What's the point of buying 'carbon credits'? I mean, other than to make money by selling someone something that is essentially without value to help them ease their guilt for contributing to a problem that isn't really a problem?

Climatologists have estimated that the Earth's temperatures were generally about 8-15 degrees Celsius higher than they have been in recent times, except when broken up by Ice Ages. http://www.physicalgeography.net/fundamentals/7x.html

While I believe that all humans should be good stewards of the Earth (I recycle and drive a Prius, for crying out loud), I think that it's pure vanity for humans to believe that we are capable of destroying this planet. We may destroy ourselves, but not the planet.
