I don't know what "you have inferred that somehow the consumer is in the mix" is even supposed to mean. I was only expressing my distaste for the government's overreaching anti-freedom policies.

According to King and commenters, business should be able to do anything they want to do when it comes to advertising. Part of our capitalist enemies plan to defraud us without any limitations, I suppose.

The argument with the Cheerios thing is part of a truth-in-advertsing creep problem that has been building for awhile. To my knowledge, no studies have shown that eating Cheerios lowers choresterol. It's phony advertising to dupe the public into buying their product.

It's the Republican marketing plan that Cheerios is using…..just make stuff up and insist it's true.

Don’t forget that “big tobacco” is THRILLED about the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. Wait, why would the major players in an industry want more givernment regulation and oversight? Because niche products like flavored tobacco (i.e Clove) are now illegal, so only big tobacco’s monopoly on regular and menthol is allowed. Plus all new products are subject to FDA approval, which is a lengthy and costly process which few makers can absorb.

Thank you Government for smoking out Phillip Morris’ competition!

One more thing in that last point is interesting. New tobacco products must be reviewed and approved by the FDA (to ensure they don’t contain “flavor”). So does that mean cigarettes are now FDA Approved?

In summary: Cheerios are not approved by the FDA. Cigarettes are approved by the FDA.
